Call for Workshop Facilitators: Indigenous Youth Videography Summer Camp

The City of Prince Rupert and Kxeen Community Services Society, in partnership with the Indigenous Relations Committee, is seeking an experienced and passionate Workshop Facilitator and Videographer/Media Professional to lead a one-week videography summer camp for between 10-12 Indigenous youth ages 14-18 years old  this July or August.

About the Camp:
This program is designed to empower Indigenous youth through hands-on storytelling and digital media skills development. Our intent is for participants to learn videography basics—storyboarding, filming, editing, and production—culminating in a showcase of their own collaborative short video. The camp is intended to foster cultural expression, technical skills, and creative confidence. This work will also to youth and elder engagement for the City’s ongoing Action Plan work to promote reconciliation (see background below for details), with the intent being to give back to the community as part of the planning process. 

We’re looking for facilitators who:

  • Have experience working with youth, especially Indigenous youth
  • Are skilled in videography and digital storytelling
  • Can provide their own videography equipment (camera, mic, editing laptop/software, etc.)
  • Hold a recent criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening – experience in trauma-informed practice an asset
  • Are dependable, creative, and collaborative
  • Liability insurance naming the City as co-insured
  • Have access to a vehicle (asset but not required)

Camp Details:

  • Duration: 5 days (dates to be confirmed), Monday to Friday, 10 am – 3 pm 
  • Location: Recreation Complex, Prince Rupert, BC, (space to be provided)
  • Compensation: $500/day

ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND:

The City of Prince Rupert in collaboration with Kxeen Community Services and our Indigenous Relations Committee, is developing an Action Plan to promote reconciliation across the municipality. As part of the work we are doing, we want to support opportunities for youth and elders to connect and learn from one another, and to generate new skills for the future Indigenous leaders in our community. 

As part of our work to engage the community this summer, we are offering a FREE summer camp for 1 week in July or August for between 10-12 youth, with self-identified Indigenous, Metis, and Inuit youth ages 14 to 18 eligible to participate. 

What’s involved? 

  • To support the facilitator, we also intend to bring in story-telling, videography and media experts to provide youth a variety of skills, which they will practice on one another. 
  • Signed video consent forms from parents/guardians will be obtained through the registration process – conducted in concert with Kxeen Community Services youth outreach worker 
  • Elder involvement for both teaching and interview opportunities.
  • Lunch and snacks will be provided, but no stipend or pay to youth for participation.
