The Prince Rupert Performing Arts Centre was built as a state-of-the-art 700-seat facility opened in 1987. In 2006 it was renamed Lester Centre of the Arts. It is operated by a non-profit society for the cultural benefit of the people of the Pacific Northwest. The house features side and upper balconies, with unobstructed view from all seats. Modern sound and lighting equipment complement the comfortable padded seats to produce an enjoyable and enlightening theatre experience. The spacious lobby hosts art displays from local artists, as well as a soft bar.
The Lester Centre is at the heart of arts in Prince Rupert, a venue is the envy of communities around BC and Canada. The facility averages more than 120 performances each year, and the space is used for rehearsals, dance classes, City meeting and school district events with more than 420 bookings in a season. The facility boasts a rehearsal room, and a number of meeting rooms as well as the lobby gallery display area and stage. The Lester Centre is a versatile facility and can accommodate almost any event. Conventions, auctions, and televised town hall meetings are just some of the events scheduled every year at the Lester Centre.
