When
Did you miss Monday’s Council Meeting? See below for a summary of the main agenda items:
- At the outset of the meeting, Council acknowledged it would be the last in person meeting for outgoing City Manager, Dr. Robert Buchan, who is retiring from the City in July. Dr. Buchan has been City Manager of Prince Rupert since 2021, and will be replaced by Deputy City Manager Richard Pucci.
- Council noted that two staff have been appointed to boards representing their respective professional designations. Corinne Bomben, the City’s Chief Financial Officer was recently appointed to the Government Finance Officers of BC Board as president, and Nicole Beauregard was appointed as a Director to the BC Recreation and Parks Association board.
- Council approved the circulation of the 2024 Annual Report, which is now available on the City’s website and at City Hall. Council also set a date of June 23rd at 7pm at Council Chambers in City Hall for the Annual Public Meeting, which includes a presentation of the report and opportunity for public comment.
- Council adopted the mid-year Strategic Plan Update, which can be found on the City’s website, here: https://www.princerupert.ca/city-hall/strategic-plan
- Council voted to approve the requirement for the School District complete upgrades to the sanitary service to the Middle School at their cost, and to decline the waiver of building and demolition permit fees given potential budgetary impacts.
- Council voted to accept a donation from the Rotary youth Interact Club of coverings for picnic tables in Seal Cove, provided metal roofing material is used for additional durability.
- Council approved a motion to request staff to bring additional information back to Council with respect to the allowance of backyard chickens. This will be provided at a future meeting and in complement to additional ongoing work on food policy more generally.
