    Summary of Council Meeting from April 25th

    • Council moved a Temporary Use Permit to public notification for 511 Cotton St to place a storage container for a year.
    • Council approved a Development Variance Permit for 1107 11th Ave East.
    • Council approved a Development Variance Permit for 1130 11th Ave East.
    • Council received an update from the Director of Operations and Intergovernmental Relations on the waterfront project at Rotary Park, originally unveiled at the Redesign Rupert 2030 Vision event. Following the update, Council resolved to award the new airport ferry berth project under the Master Services Agreement with Coast Tsimshian Northern Contractors Alliance.
    • Council received the information from the Committee of the Whole meeting where the Chief Financial Officer provided a summary of the results of the public consultation.  Council resolved to direct staff to incorporate the recommended increase to balance the budget as proposed into the five year financial plan and tax rate bylaw.
    • Council resolved to declare May 12th, 2022 Moosehide campaign day, a day where all Canadians are called to join together to take a stand against violence towards women and children and to take practical steps for our collective journey of reconciliation.     • Council gave third reading to Road Closure Bylaw No 3488, 2022 (to close a section of Market Place adjacent to the new RCMP station location) which will now be forwarded to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure for approval.
    • Council passed the final reading of the Business Regulations & Licensing Bylaw no 3476. This Bylaw regulates standards within the rental housing market and provides a licensing framework for those who rental multiple units.     • Council voted to give first and second readings to Zoning Amendment Bylaw 3493 and directed it to proceed to Public Hearing. The amendment proposes multiple administrative changes to streamline regulatory processes and work toward OCP goals. Among other things, this includes allowing secondary suites in duplexes, animal hospitals in all commercial zones, and temporary use of shipping containers for storage for up to 60 days.
