    Council Summary - April 11th, 2022 

    • The City’s Chief Financial Officer provided a short presentation and final in-person consultation opportunity for the proposed 2022 Budget. No members of the public came forward to speak.

       
    • The Director of Operations and Intergovernmental Relations provided an update on major projects. For a full summary of ongoing projects, go to: https://www.princerupert.ca/business_development/major_projects

       
    • Council approved a request to transition the CN Station and RCMP Detachment projects to the Master Service Agreement with Coast Tsimshian Northern Contractors Alliance (CTNCA), which will provide continued surety on rates and contractor availability.

       
    • Council approved a Development Variance Permit for 1107  11th Avenue East and 1130 11th Avenue East to move to public notification.

       
    • Council approved the rezoning and Official Community Plan amendment for the 1220 Portage Road from residential to industrial designation and from P1: Public Facilities to M1: Light Industrial.

       
    • Council gave final approval of the Cemetery Fees and Charges amendment bylaw No 3488, 2022, which will make some slight administrative changes to the bylaw.  

       
    • Council repealed the previous 3rd reading of the ‘Renoviction’ Bylaw (Business Regulation & Licensing Bylaw No 3476, 2021) from March 28th, and gave a separate 3rd reading of the Bylaw as amended. The amendments provide:
      • Greater clarity with respect to owner responsibility for providing the option for re-occupancy at the previous rent and moving costs incurred by an occupant if the owner’s rental license is suspended and associated evictions required;
      • Provision for rental owners to make an application to Council for an exemption to the Restriction on Evictions applicable to multi-family rental owners; and,  
      • Exemption to the licensing requirement for owners of single-family dwelling units, two-family dwelling units or secondary suites of those units.
