Interment Options, Scheduling and Standards

Fairview Cemetery offers a variety of interment options, including burial plots, columbarium niches, and ossuary interments.

Burial plots and columbarium niches may be reserved for future use. The cemetery licence fee is payable at the time of reservation. Interment and memorial installation fees are collected when the interment is scheduled.

Interments are typically scheduled Monday through Friday between 10:00am and 2:00pm. Saturday interments may be considered with prior approval from the Operations Manager. Additional fees for Saturday interments apply as outlined in Schedule A of Cemetery Bylaw No. 3562, 2026.

To ensure interments are carried out safely and respectfully, the following standards apply:

  • All casket interments require a plot liner.
  • Plot liners are typically purchased through the funeral service provider and must be delivered to Fairview Cemetery at least one business day before the interment.
  • An Interment Permit must be completed, signed, and paid for at least 72 hours before the scheduled interment.

The following information and documentation are required:

  • Name, age, and address of the deceased
  • Authorization from the person with the legal right to arrange the interment
  • Disposition Permit and Death Certificate
  • Cremation Certificate, where applicable
  • Any additional information required under Cemetery Bylaw No. 3562, 2026 or applicable legislation

Urns placed in a cemetery plot or columbarium niche must be made of durable, non-deteriorating material and must not exceed 11.5 inches (29 cm) in height.

Cemetery Plot Options

We offer several plot options to accommodate different interment preferences:

Large Plot

  • One full-casket interment
  • Up to six additional interments of cremated remains

Small Plot

  • One small-casket interment
  • Up to two additional interments of cremated remains

Cremation Plot

  • One urn containing the cremated remains of a single individual, or
  • One urn designed to contain the cremated remains of two individuals

Plot Adornments

Families are welcome to place fresh or artificial flowers, wreaths, and other floral tributes on cemetery plots.

At the columbarium, flowers may be placed in approved vases attached to the nameplate.

To help maintain the beauty of Fairview Cemetery, the Cemetery Caretaker may remove flowers, wreaths, or other floral tributes that have deteriorated or are no longer in good condition. Fairview Cemetery is responsible for the maintenance of landscaping features, lawns, roads and pathways, gates, irrigation systems, trees, shrubs, and other cemetery infrastructure and improvements.

Families are responsible for the care, maintenance, and upkeep of any memorials, monuments, markers, flowers, decorations, and other adornments placed on their loved one's plot. The Cemetery is not responsible for maintaining, repairing, replacing, or cleaning these items. Adornments must comply with Cemetery regulations and may be removed if they become unsafe, deteriorated, or interfere with cemetery maintenance operations.

Cemetery Memorials & Structures

Memorials may be placed one year after interment to allow the ground to fully settle.

The standard memorial at Fairview Cemetery is a headstone installed flush with the ground. If you wish to install a different type of memorial, a Memorial Structure Application is required.
Please contact us to obtain an application and plot measurements. All memorials and adornments must fit within the designated plot dimensions.

For the safety of visitors and cemetery staff, all structures and adornments must be securely installed and maintained in good condition.
