$25,000 in Funding has Assisted the City in Purchasing an Automated CPR device

PRINCE RUPERT, JUNE 27th, 2023 – The City’s Fire Department is now much better equipped for supporting residents in need, thanks to $25,000 in funding from Trigon Pacific Terminals. The automated chest compression system – purchased with an allocation from Trigon’s Community Investment Fund – straps to the chest during emergency transport, ensuring the consistency of compressions for patients experiencing cardiac arrest.

“Community partnerships like these are essential to helping our Department to improve our capacity and the overall level of service provided to the community,” said Prince Rupert Fire Chief Jeff Beckwith.

“We’re pleased to have been able to make this important improvement in emergency response capability possible,” said Trigon CEO Rob Booker. “It’s gratifying for all of us at Trigon to know that the equipment has proven highly effective in its initial applications, and that this will mean materially better health results for many people in Prince Rupert.”

The technology will help to improve outcomes for patients by maintaining stable blood pressure when the Fire Department is called on to help. Consistently applying CPR compressions during transportation can otherwise be challenging while patients are loaded and unloaded during an incident response and transportation to hospital.  The technology not only improves outcomes for the patients, but reduces fatigue over longer durations, and reduces risk for caregivers during transportation by allowing them to sit belted.
