BC Wildfire Service is putting in place a Northwest Fire Centre campfire prohibition, in effect as of Saturday, August 10th at noon. From this date, prohibitions now include Category 1 campfires. Prince Rupert and surrounding area’s are part of the prohibition. This will remain in effect until September 30, 2024 at 12:00 pm Noon, or until the order is rescinded.

Category 2 and Category 3 open burning remains prohibited in the entire Northwest Fire Centre, along with the use of fireworks, including firecrackers, and sky lanterns.

In addition, the following activities and equipment are also restricted:

•             Fireworks, including firecrackers;
•             Sky lanterns;
•             Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description;
•             Binary exploding targets;
•             Air curtain burners;
•             Tiki and similar kind of torches; and,
•             Chimineas
