  • Did you miss last night's Council meeting(s)? Check out a summary of the main items below.

    • At 6 pm, Council held a Public Hearing for the proposed rezoning of the property at 100 1st Avenue East (the Lax Kw'alaams Development Office) from P1 Public Use to C1 Commercial to reflect its current use.  No members from the public came forward to speak at the hearing.
    • At the Regular meeting Council directed staff to proceed with remedial action orders at 1333 8th Avenue East and 331 8th Avenue East. Remedial action orders are processes the City can take to direct an owner to remediate and clean up properties that present hazard or nuisance to the community, with specific processes laid out in the Community Charter. If action is not taken by the owner, the City can take action to clean up the property directly following the processes outlined in the Charter. Once Council has approved an order and a notice has been sent, the property owner has a set period of time to request a reconsideration notice, at which time Council can decide how to proceed. Updates on these orders will be provided at a future meeting of Council.
    • Council gave third reading to Zoning Amendment Bylaw 3557, 2025, which was the subject of the earlier Public Hearing. The Bylaw will receive final reading at a future meeting.
    • Council gave third readings to Road Closure Bylaws 3555 and 3556, 2025. These closures are to enable the sale of the properties and consolidation with the neighbouring lots, with that work being part of the development of the new Middle School.
