Did you miss last night’s Council Meeting? See below for the highlights of the main items discussed:

    • Council passed two resolutions of support for funding applications – one to the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) for Emergency Social Services capacity funding, and another to Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT) for funding to support accessibility upgrades to the upstairs washroom at the Civic Centre.
    • Council approved three Development Variance permits.
    • Council approved a resolution to amend the Financial Plan to account for the receipt of two provincial grants – one for $40,000 towards development of indigenous protocols for emergency response planning, and the other $200,000 to spend on updating our Official Community Plan and Housing Needs Assessment to reflect recent Provincial changes to housing legislation. The amendment also included a $200,000 expenditure to be funded from reserves to replace the Operations department mini-hoe, which recently experienced a significant failure.
    • At the end of the meeting, Councillor Adey brought forward a Notice of Motion for a future meeting to explore opportunities to encourage recruitment of health professionals to the Prince Rupert hospital and area.
