Agenda & Addendums
When
Did you miss the Public Hearing and Regular Council Meeting last night? Check out a summary of the main items on the agenda of the Council Meeting(s) of June 12th, 2023 below.
- Council held a public hearing at 6 pm regarding a proposed rezoning on 9th Avenue West from R2 and P1 to RM5 with a height restriction of 21 metres. This rezoning was proposed in order to accommodate a multi-family building of 40 units adjacent to the middle school. Council heard from both the proponent of the development as well as a number of community members who spoke against the development and presented a petition.
- In the regular meeting, Council received a presentation of the Annual Report and adopted it for circulation. The Annual Public Meeting, with opportunity for public comment on the Annual Report, will be held at the June 26th meeting at 7 pm in Council Chambers. - At the public opportunity for comment on items on the Council Agenda, several members of the public came to speak in favour of supporting a Liquor License Amendment to allow for a lounge area for Port City Spirits at their proposed Fraser Street location, and other members of the public came forward to speak regarding the City’s processes for Development Variance permitting and opportunities for public input.
- Council moved to include consideration of support for the Port City Spirits liquor license amendment request within the agenda, where Council later voted to grant support.
- Council approved a funding application to UBCM for the City to apply for Complete Communities/walkability planning works.
- Council approved two Development Variance Permits at 330 8th Avenue East, 630 Sherbrooke Avenue, and 1808-1810 7th Avenue East to move to public notification, and approved permits for 212 9th Avenue East, 1129 11th Avenue East, and 945 Hays Cove Avenue.
- Council repealed and re-read 1st and 2nd reading of Zoning Amendment Bylaw 3506, 2023 which would include child care facilities as a permitted use in commercial and public facilities zones. A public hearing for this amendment was waived, given the change aligns with the City’s Official Community Plan and actions identified in the City’s Child Care Assessment and Action Plan. - Following the opportunity for public input, Council gave third reading to Zoning Amendment Bylaw 3507 to rezone the property adjacent to the middle school from R2 and P1 to RM5 with a height restriction of 21 metres. This rezoning is being proposed to enable a 40 unit apartment building.
- Council closed the meeting with thanks to all of the volunteers, organizers and participants of Seafest last weekend, and with acknowledgement of June as both National Indigenous History and Pride month.
