Major Milestone for Prince Rupert

PRINCE RUPERT, SEPTEMBER 2nd, 2026 – The City of Prince Rupert congratulates Jim Pattison Developments on receiving its Building Permit and officially breaking ground on the new Save-On-Foods store on George Hills Way. Once complete, the store will be operated by Pattison Food Group, a sister division within the Jim Pattison Group.

This is an exciting milestone for our community and the culmination of significant work by the Pattison teams, City staff, and the many partners involved in moving this development forward.

The new store represents a substantial private-sector investment in Prince Rupert and another important step in the continued development of the Cow Bay area. Most importantly, it reflects confidence in Prince Rupert's future and will bring new investment, employment, and services to our growing community.

“This is transformational change that people can see happening in their community,” said Mayor Herb Pond. “Breaking ground on the new Save-On-Foods is about much more than one development; it is a sign of confidence in Prince Rupert and the direction our community is heading. We have worked hard to create the conditions for investment and growth, and I believe this is the start of many more good things to come for Prince Rupert.”

"We have been proud to be part of the Prince Rupert community for many years, and we are thrilled to reach this milestone and begin construction on the new Save-On-Foods," said David Bell, President of Jim Pattison Developments. "This project reflects our confidence in this community and its future, and we look forward to delivering a store that will make Prince Rupert proud."

The City is proud to see this long-awaited project move into construction and looks forward to watching the new store take shape.

Congratulations to Jim Pattison Developments, the Pattison Food Group and everyone who helped bring this project to the starting line. Prince Rupert is building for the future.
