Free Events Offered Throughout June in Partnership with Multiple Community Organizations

PRINCE RUPERT, MAY 27th, 2026 – The City of Prince Rupert’s Recreation Department is excited to participate in the 2026 Community Better Challenge. Delivered in partnership with several community organizations, this initiative is providing free recreation activities throughout June, with the intent to bring together families to try new activities and build a stronger, healthier and more active community.

See attached calendar for more information on what’s on offer!

By participating in this national event, Prince Rupert becomes eligible for a grand prize of $100,000 towards local facilities and programming that’s awarded to Canada’s most active community. To help rally and win the grand prize this year residents, Schools, organizations and the City can are encouraged to log active hours throughout the month to potentially win (see below for contest details). With or without a grand prize, this is also an annual reminder of all of the great options we have to flex both our muscles and our brains in Prince Rupert.

“This initiative is a great opportunity for our community to come together, stay active, and celebrate healthy living,” said Brian Millis, Manager of Recreation. “We’re so grateful to the many community partners stepping up to offer new events, and for the long-time events like those offered by Special Events at Seafest that bring people together every year.”

This year’s challenge is supported by a number of community organizations hosting free events and activities across Prince Rupert. Thank you to the following participating organizations:

  • Northern Savings Credit Union
  • Prince Rupert Port Authority
  • Prince Rupert Special Events

    About the ParticipACTION Community Challenge

The ParticipACTION Community Challenge, presented by Novo Nordisk, returns this year to help people in Canada enjoy the many physical, social and mental health benefits of getting active together! This national physical activity and sport initiative encourages everyone in Canada to get active throughout June, ultimately recognizing Canada’s Most Active Community and awarding it $100,000 to support local physical activity and sport initiatives. To help rally Prince Rupert and win the grand prize this year, we need as many people as possible to participate!

  • Local governments and organizations: Register your June physical activity and sport programs, events and/or initiatives on ParticipACTION’s website. Then, throughout June, track the number(s) of people participating in them to help our community compete for the title of Canada’s Most Active Community.
  • Active groups of two or more people: Sign up for the Challenge on ParticipACTION’s website, and participate in physical activities together throughout June. Your selected group leader will then register and track your group’s June physical activities on the website. All of them will count toward our community’s total progress.

Join ParticipAction in the movement to build a stronger, healthier and more active Prince Rupert!
