Weekend Event Co-Hosted with the Prince Rupert Port Authority and Tourism Prince Rupert Promises Family Fun

PRINCE RUPERT, APRIL 22nd, 2026 – This April, the City of Prince Rupert is teaming up with PRPA and Tourism Prince Rupert to host a family‑friendly Earth Day celebration in Seal Cove. The event features events and activities from numerous by local community partners and organizations – from crafts and games to live music, a food truck and mini pump track.

Alongside hands‑on activities and outdoor fun, it’s also a great moment to highlight the meaningful climate‑friendly initiatives already underway in our community. Here are some of the steps that our municipality has taken over the past year to reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and build long‑term resilience:

  • Completion of the Climate Action Plan, including a full hazard and risk assessment to help guide future decision‑making.
  • Electrification of Public Works vehicles, including the purchase of an EV dump truck and work truck, plus new charging infrastructure at the PW yard.
  • Water‑saving upgrades, such as installing low‑flow toilets in the new Recreation Centre washrooms.
  • Energy efficiency review of recreation facilities, now underway to identify opportunities for reduced energy use and operating costs.
  • Construction of the new wetland wastewater treatment system, a nature‑based solution that improves water quality while supporting local habitat.
  • Sustainability design features integrated into the newly opened RCMP detachment.
  • Public Works in-kind support for several clean ups over the past year.

We look forward to seeing the community to celebrate Earth Day with us at this weekend’s events.
