Mobility Kits Available at the End of November at the Library as Final Deliverable in Collaborative Community Project
PRINCE RUPERT, NOVEMBER 13th, 2024– Participating organizations are hosting a launch session on November 28th at the Library of the new mobility kits developed as a result of the Enhanced Mobility program that ran through the summer/fall of 2024. The program included a 90 min introductory workshop on Enhanced Mobility & Falls Prevention, inclusive of a physical literacy movement class. It also included an eight-week 60 min Enhanced Mobility Community Movement Series featured at the following locations: Prince Rupert Gymnastics, the Prince Rupert Library, the Civic Centre and the Earl Mah Aquatic Centre
The final piece of the program, funded by Northern Health’s Imagine Grant is an enhanced mobility lending library kit that can be borrowed through the Prince Rupert Library system.
“We are thrilled to be part of this partnership in Prince Rupert, supporting accessible physical activity and falls prevention for older adults. It’s exciting to see this project come to life, and we’re proud to play a role in making in happen,” shared Breanne Frenkel, Coordinator for Community Funding Programs with Population and Public Health Observatory for Northern Health.
The Enhanced Mobility Kit supports users with ideas and equipment to move your body through activities of daily living, stretching and play. This helps develop, maintain and improve basic and functional movement skills. The goal is to support individuals with their movement goals and to stay active at home. Effective, November 28th, this kit can be borrowed through Prince Rupert Library system - all you need is your Library Card!
Residents are invited to join community partners that participated in the Enhanced Mobility Program on Thursday, November 28, 11am-12pm at the Prince Rupert Library for the launch of our Kit. The event will include an explanation and review of the equipment in the kit, with some basic demonstrations on how to use the equipment and additional movement resources.
BACKGROUND
In fall 2023 Prince Rupert Gymnastics, behalf of community partners, applied for a Northern Health IMAGINE grant. The funding was successful and as a community we were able to host an Enhanced Mobility Project for Prince Rupert.
