Climate Adaptation Plan Underway, City and Contracted Planners Seeking Community Input
PRINCE RUPERT, FEBRUARY 26th, 2024 – The City of Prince Rupert is hosting a public meeting at the Prince Rupert Public Library on February 29 from 7-8:30pm to inform the community about its Climate Action and Adaptation Plan and gather feedback on how the community should prepare for climate change.
The CAAP is a plan to prepare the Prince Rupert community for risks related to climate change, including heat waves, severe rainstorms and floods, changes to local ecosystems, wildfires, cold snaps, and more. The plan is currently under development and will be complete by the end of 2024.
From floods to the January 2020 cold snaps to last summer’s heat wave, Prince Rupert residents are already dealing with extreme weather related to the climate crisis. The City is seeking input on their experience and concerns, as well as their ideas on how the community can prepare.
In addition to Thursday’s meeting, residents can share their concerns on Rupert Talks, the City’s online engagement platform, and help build a climate hazard map that’s gathering information on how different areas of the city are being affected by extreme weather.
