Closure will extend into Saturday
PRINCE RUPERT, B.C., AUGUST 1st, 2025 – This morning the City discovered a fire within the Landfill footprint. A closure of the landfill has been put into immediate effect while crews attend to the fire and take all necessary precautions to ensure that it can safely be reopened.
Landfill fires are extremely serious and require particular fire response and management, requiring automatic closures when they are detected. As such, this closure will be for the remainder of the day and into Saturday or as long as necessary to determine that risk has been alleviated.
The City has reported the incident to environmental authorities and will follow any guidance provided.
More information will be provided as the situation develops.
