Carving Gifted to the City at North Central Local Government Conference Only a Week Ago by Chetwynd
PRINCE RUPERT, MAY 27th , 2025 – The City is disappointed to report that the recent donation of a wood carving installed in the park adjacent to the hospital has been damaged.
"It’s heartbreaking to see something that was gifted to us as a sign of friendship damaged in this way. We hope to see it soon restored to its former glory,” said Mayor Herb Pond.
The chainsaw carving, titled "Survival of the Fittest," is a piece highlighting area wildlife, carved by Jarette Dahl and gifted to the City by the community of Chetwynd as part of May’s NCLGA conference, which Prince Rupert hosted. The art piece was installed just one week ago and was intended to be a lasting symbol of inter-community connection and shared appreciation for local artistry.
The City is currently assessing the extent of the damage and will be working with Chetwynd and the carver to determine how and when repairs can be made. The City is also urging anyone who knows the parties involved reach out to the City.
