A Donation of $1600 in weights has been made to the local Recreation Department

PRINCE RUPERT, NOVEMBER 29th, 2024– Coast Tsimshian Enterprises (CTE) and Progressive Ventures Construction (PVC) has generously donated three sets of dumbbell weights (50, 60 and 70 lbs) to the Earl Mah Aquatic and Fitness Centre in support of community health and wellness. The three sets of weights represent a total value of over $1600, and this contribution supports the broader work of the City to update its fitness centre inventory.

“At CTE and PVC we believe that the strength of our company lies not only in the work we do but, in the health, and well-being of the people who make it possible – our dedicated employees. We recognize that a healthy, engaged team is key to our success, and their physical and mental wellness is essential to that goal. We are honored to donate the funds to help purchase the weights for the Earl Mah Aquatic and Fitness Center in Prince Rupert,” shared Robert Taylor, Human Resources Coordinator from PVC.

Some of the heavier weights in the facility needed to be removed as they were past their usable life, leaving a gap in weight training needs. A donation opportunity was identified by one of Progressive’s own staff to Recreation management, and the collaboration grew from there.

“We are always looking for opportunities to work with partners to improve what we offer the community at our facilities,” said Nicole Beauregard, Director of Recreation and Community Services. “We are very grateful to CTE & PVC for stepping up to fill a gap that they saw at our facility.”

 BACKGROUND

CTE a 100% Indigenous owned collaborative undertaking between Lax Kw’alaams and Metlakatla First Nation.  PVC is a general contracting company based in Terrace since 1973. The CTE & PVC partnership has been active since 2017. Most projects undertaken by PVC in the Prince Rupert area are completed through this partnership.

This project also aligns with additional improvements that are coming to the fitness centre. In October of 2024, the Recreation and Community Services department at the City of Prince Rupert (CPR) was successful in their application from Social Planning and Research Council of BC (SPARC BC) and was awarded $25,000 towards accessible flooring upgrades and low-impact equipment improvements to the fitness centre.  Following the collection of broader community input through a survey as well as recommendations from local fitness professionals, the Recreation and Community Services department will be implementing additional accessibility flooring improvements and new fitness equipment in 2025.
