Free Events Offered Throughout June in Partnership with Multiple Community Organizations
PRINCE RUPERT, MAY 29th, 2025 – The City of Prince Rupert’s Recreation and Community Services Department is excited to participate in the 2025 Community Better Challenge. Delivered in partnership with several community organizations, this initiative is providing free recreation activities throughout June, with the intent to bring together families to try new activities and build a stronger, healthier and more active community.
To help rally and win the grand prize this year, we need as many people as possible to participate! Residents, organizations and the City can log active hours throughout the month to potentially win up to $100,000 towards local facilities and programming (see below for contest details).
This project, along with others occurring this year, is supported by several community organizations, including the North Coast Mountain Bike Association (NCMBA) who are offering a ‘Pop Up Bike Park’ in the Civic Centre arena several Mondays in June from 3:30 – 6:30 pm.
“One of our club’s mission statements is to encourage participation in recreational cycling so we are thrilled to partner with the City of Prince Rupert through Participaction,” said Craig Rimmer, NCMBA Board Member. “Movement, exercise, and organized recreation are so important to any community and the North Coast Mountain Bike Association is excited at the chance to contribute in a fun and meaningful way.”
About the ParticipACTION Community Challenge
The Community Challenge is a national physical activity and sport initiative that encourages everyone in Canada to get active throughout June in search of Canada’s Most Active Community. The challenge is open to all communities and individuals, ultimately recognizing Canada’s Most Active Community and awarding it $100,000 to support local physical activity and sport initiatives. In addition to the national winner, there is also a prize for the most active community in each province and territory as well as organization-level prizes.
How to Join the Challenge:
- Organizations: Register your June physical activity programs, events and/or initiatives on the ParticipACTION website. Then, throughout June, track the number of people participating in them to help our community compete for the title of Canada’s Most Active Community.
- Individuals: Sign up on the ParticipACTION website, and pledge to get active throughout June where you live, learn and/or work!
When organizations and individuals sign up and register your activity, the website tracks your postal code and counts your activity level as part of our overall community score.
How you can participate in Prince Rupert?
This June the City of Prince Rupert along with our community partners will be hosting a community calendar of FREE activities. Join in one or all activities and get entered into a grand draw prize. Remember to sign up as an individual to track your movement or register as an organization and track the numbers of participants at your event.
