PRINCE RUPERT, B.C., JULY 25th, 2025 – The City of Prince Rupert is excited to announce that City Council has approved a new pilot program to support youth recreation this summer. Starting this Saturday and continuing through the end of August, drop-in fees will be waived for youth aged 18 and under during Saturday night drop-in gym time at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.

The free access will be available in the gymnasium from 4:00 to 8:00 PM every Saturday night until August 30th, 2025.

“This initiative is part of Council’s ongoing commitment to creating more accessible recreational opportunities for young people in our community,” said Nicole Beauregard, Director of Recreation and Community Services. “We want to ensure local youth have a safe, welcoming space to be active and connect with friends over the summer months.”

The pilot will run for the remainder of the summer and help staff and Council gauge the impact of free youth programming on participation levels and community engagement. Feedback from the pilot will help inform future recreation planning.

No registration is required—just show up and play!
