Correction of Multiple Issues that Resulted in Longer Term Notice
PRINCE RUPERT, FEBRUARY 28th, 2025 – Residents are advised that the Boil Water Notice has now been rescinded following confirmation that requirements for securing and verifying water quality have been met.
The notice began in late November as a result of a power failure at the City’s remote treatment plant. Prior to removing it, the City had to meet a number of conditions. This included confirmation of the restored power source, regular flushing to ensure an appropriate level of chlorine is maintained throughout the distribution system, correction of an area of pipe that posed a risk that stagnant water could be introduced to the water supply, and suitable water quality testing results.
The final hurdle to remove the notice was the completion of construction work to correct the section of pipe that was of concern, completed last weekend. Following two rounds of clear bacteriological tests this past week, Northern Health confirmed that the notice could be removed.
We appreciate the community’s continued patience during this more extended notice. For more information on upcoming capital improvements to our water supply infrastructure, go to engage.princerupert.ca/big.
