We appreciate the community’s continued patience regarding the 6th Avenue Bridge closure given assessment delays over the holidays. We’ve now confirmed with our contracted engineers that we will need to keep the current traffic pattern on the bridge until we are able to repair and safely reopen the pedestrian walkway. With assessment information in hand, our staff are currently preparing tender documents for this project, which was included in the 2024 budget. We anticipate a construction start in the Spring once weather permits. We understand this timeline is less than ideal for residents impacted by the closure, but unfortunately we have limitations to the construction that can happen in the winter months.
We know this detour is impacting many of our east-side residents, and this is not the only inconvenient traffic diversion in town. We want to assure the community we will be working hard to get this project completed as soon as we are able, and we also will have an aggressive capital replacement and repair schedule this spring to address the many water break areas in need of attention. We want to thank the community for your patience and understanding, and encourage you to follow our page and download our municipal app for regular traffic and programming updates.
