  • Did you miss the Council Meeting? See below for a highlight of the main items:

    • Council received public input on proposed update to the updated Fire Control and Protection Bylaw regarding concern with respect to impact on service delivery to industrial sites.
    • Council gave first and second reading to Fire Control and Protection Bylaw No. 3633.  Staff will be scheduling engagement in the near future. The Bylaw does not propose any impact to existing service levels, but rather the Bylaw identifies existing known deficiencies in the City’s capacity to respond to industrial incidents, aligns with Provincial training and inspection requirements, and updates the previous 2004 fee structure. The issue with respect to servicing levels has been part of ongoing discussions with the Prince Rupert Port Authority, and provision is made in the Bylaw to generate servicing agreements to help fill those gaps. In the meantime, staff clarified that the Fire Department remain committed to providing services within their capabilities to industrial partners
    • Council gave first and second readings to the Cow Bay Marina Fees and Regulations Bylaw, with additional information on cost impacts of proposed changes to be brought back to Council at a future meeting.
    • Council received a presentation from Atmospheric perspectives for the Japanese Canadian Legacies memorial and Mariners Memorial Wall replacement project. Construction on this project is anticipated to go to tender in the coming months.
