    Family Skills

    Family Support Workers provide resources and support for parents who may, at times, need additional guidance with parenting challenges and enhancing healthy lifestyles to improve the lives of their children and themselves.

    Infant/Support Child Development Program

    Our consultants provide resources, guidance and support for parents whose children, aged 0 to 18, who may have or have been diagnosed with developmental delays.

    Our consultants provide resources, guidance and access to additional child care support funds while children, who have developmental delays, require the use of day care centers. Transitioning from day care to Kindergarten can be a challenge for many parents. Consultant can assist to ensure a positive transition to a classroom environment.

    Common Bowl Project (Supervised Access Visits) – Family Skills Program

    Parents whose children are in the custody of the Ministry of Children and Family Development can visit in a safe and supportive environment.  Family Support Workers provide non-judgmental guidance to parents to help ensure visits are a positive experience for their children and themselves.

    For those parents who are eligible, the Common Bowl Project will provide another avenue to reconnect with their children.  Parents will learn practical, hands-on skills to support themselves and their children while completing day to day tasks, such as meal preparation and grocery shopping.  Participating in cultural activities, crafts and events will have a significant role within the Project, providing another avenue to reconnect parents with their children.

    Positive Discipline Parenting Program

    Our Family Support Workers offer parents with an opportunity to consider the needs of their children and their role as parents.

    In the program, parents will learn:
    · Encourage independence and exploration while providing appropriate boundaries
    · Instill valuable social skills and positive behavior inside and outside the home by using methods that teach important life skills
    · Discover how to develop sound judgment without being judgmental
    · Learn how to use follow-through the only surefire way to get chores don
    · Understand what the latest research in brain development tells us about raising healthy children
    · This is an opportunity for parents to learn from others, share their successes and challenges and recognize their abilities to be loving and nurturing parents

    The Building Blocks Family Connection Centre Team offers therapies, consultation, and support services for families and their children or youth may have support needs.

    Services and supports? Like physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language services, behaviour supports? Inclusive child care supports, child and youth care workers? As well as family education and coaching are available.

    Building Blocks Family Connection Centre also a great source for information and guidance about child development, parenting supports, services, and resources that are available to children/youth with support needs and their families. The Centre’s team will support children/youth and families to connect with disability and provincial services teams as needed.

    The Centre’s staff and partner organizations provide in-person, virtual, and outreach services that are delivered in one-to-one and group settings.

    Types of services available at the Building Blocks Family Connection Centre are:

    - Developmental services 

    - Targeted screening to help assess strengths and needs of a child or youth within the context of their family, school and community:
    ·       Developmental monitoring where possible developmental delays may exist 
    ·       Education, information and guidance to help families navigate supports and services for their children

    - Goal-focused services:
    ·       Behaviour supports with qualified professionals  
    ·       Interventions (individual and group services) aimed at helping children, youth and their families to meet their identified goals 
    ·       Therapies to meet a child or youth’s developmental goals, including occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech language therapy 
    ·       Inclusive child care support (currently known as Supported Child Development or Foundational Programs) and developmental supports for infants, children and youth

    Community-Based Victim Services

    The Victim Services Worker provides support to those individuals who are survivors of violent crimes.  The Outreach Worker offers emotional support and assistance to prepare safety plans and court documents.  The Worker will assist with the court orientation and the criminal process.

    PEACE Program (Prevention, Education, Advocacy, Counselling and Empowerment)

    PEACE counsellors support children and youth (3 to 18 years of age) through individual and group sessions to:
    · Identify their feelings and express them in healthy ways
    · Recognize their strengths and increase their self-confidence
    · Understand what abuse is and that they are not responsible
    · Identify support networks and develop a safety plan
    · Explore stereotypes and myths about relationships and about violence in the media
    · Develop conflict resolution skills

    Empowerment Program

    Children and youth of ages three to nineteen are provided with support to enhance their social and life skills and provide encouragement to become independent and successful.

    Nobody’s Perfect Parenting Program

    Nobody’s Perfect is a facilitated parenting program for parents of children from birth to age five. The program is designed to meet the needs of parents to help support them and young children.
