Transportation

Our City is served by road, ferry, rail, and air access. Land access from Prince George is via the Trans-Canada Yellowhead Highway 16. Connect with Highway 37 east of Terrace for travel South from Stewart/Hyder and the Yukon, or North from Kitimat. In addition, BC Ferries operates out of Prince Rupert with sailings up the Coast to Vancouver Island and over to Haida Gwaii. Unique to Prince Rupert is that our airport is located on an island, and requires ferry access to get there. Prince Rupert Airport (YPR)

Prince Rupert Airport (YPR) is located on Digby Island, separated from the city by approximately nine kilometers of water and land. For more information on transportation to and from the airport, click here.

Biking, Walking and Rolling

Passenger Train Service

VIA Rail operates a passenger trail connecting Prince Rupert to major cities across the country, and giving passengers a leisurely way to take in Canada’s breathtaking scenery – from the Skeena River, through the Rockies, and across the prairies.

Regional Ferry Services

The Province and area First Nations own and operate a number of different ferries that come and go from Prince Rupert. This includes BC Ferries sailings to and from Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii.
