Wed, September 16, 2020

Please see below for an update from Monday's Council Meeting. For past meetings, check out our Council Corner Archive.

  • Council approved Development Variance Permits for both 1715 Kootenay Avenue and 212 9th Avenue East.
  • Council gave First, Second and Third readings of the Woodworth Dam Replacement and Solid Waste Infrastructure bylaws. Final readings of the bylaws will be considered at the October 5th Regular Meeting of Council.
  • The Mayor provided an update regarding upcoming meetings with various ministries at this year’s virtual Union of BC Municipalities conference, as well as a meeting next week with the Premier and Minister of Finance regarding the proposed Northwest Resource Benefits Alliance.
  • The Mayor provided an additional update regarding the City’s request to the Province for a Conservation Officer to be stationed in Prince Rupert, which was rejected due to the comparatively fewer incidences/calls received from Prince Rupert as compared to Terrace, where the Conservation Office is currently stationed. Mayor and Council noted the intent to continue to work with the MLA and Province to advocate for improved conservation services in Prince Rupert, and reminded residents to secure their waste appropriately and report unsecured waste/litter to the Bylaw Department.
