New City Manager Appointment

OCTOBER 15, 2021 – PRINCE RUPERT, B.C. – The City of Prince Rupert is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Robert Buchan as our City Manager.

Rob Buchan, Ph.D., FCIP, is a highly accomplished local government management professional with over 30 years of professional experience including 11 years as a Chief Administrative Officer. He has developed a successful planning and development company. He is an adjunct professor at Simon Fraser University and has been an instructor at the University of Victoria. His professional work in official community plans, affordable housing, revitalization, trail planning, food system planning, and interface fire hazard planning has won 19 awards of excellence. In 2009, Rob was inducted into the Canadian Institute of Planners College of Fellows in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Planning in Canada. In 2018 he was awarded the Distinguished Member award by the Local Government Management Association of British Columbia.
