The City’s Economic Development Office is now accepting applications for the 2022 intake for the City’s Business Façade Improvement program. This program assists local businesses in commercial areas to complete exterior improvements, supporting downtown revitalization and beautification efforts.
“Over the years this program has been operating, we have been able to see some real tangible upgrades to our streetscape through the businesses who have participated,” stated Paul Vendittelli, Economic Development Officer. “We are grateful to NDIT to continuing to offer these funds to support small businesses in our community.”
Downtown revitalization is a key focus for the City with the renewal of our Official Community Plan, new Downtown Revitalization Tax Incentive Bylaw, and the continuation of this program. The program is made possible through $20,000 in Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT) funding, who have supported the program since it’s inception.
“The Business Façade Improvement Program is an excellent way for local governments and local businesses to enhance existing store-fronts, which in turn attracts tourists and visitors. We are pleased that the City of Prince Rupert continues to reap the benefits of this program.” Joel McKay, CEO, Northern Development Initiative Trust.
The program provides a 50% reimbursement grant up to a maximum of $5,000 per building/project to improve existing building facades. Successful applicants will receive financial assistance in the form of a non- repayable grant, for eligible projects upon completion.
Eligible improvements include exterior lighting, window/siding replacement, façade painting, accessibility improvements, signage, awnings, and more. Projects must have a minimum total cost of $4,000 in order to qualify and a maximum of $200,000 value. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and are reviewed on a first come first serve basis and until May 31st, 2022.
