City Places Residential Lots Up for Bid to Encourage Housing Development

PRINCE RUPERT, B.C. –  In an effort to increase housing stock in Prince Rupert, the City has placed a number of lots for sale this week, advertised in the legal section of the newspaper and on our website. The fully serviced lots are in various neighbourhoods around Prince Rupert, and available to the public for acquisition. “We know that there is an incredibly low vacancy rate in our local housing market, and Council has provided direction to do what we can to encourage new developments as part of the Interim Housing Strategy passed last year,” said City Manager Rob Buchan. “These initial nine lots are a first step towards encouraging new single-family residential builds, and we are also planning to release a number of larger parcels in the future to help with the multi-family housing stock.”

Specific properties can be searched by using the City’s GOMAP tool at:  To place an offer on a property, please place the bid with an accompanying letter and contact information in a sealed envelope, to the attention of Rosamaria Miller, Corporate Administrator and provide to the front desk of City Hall, 424 3rd Avenue West, Prince Rupert, BC, V8J 1L7 no later than 4:00 pm Friday, March 11th, 2022.

The City is also in the process of conducting a Housing Needs Assessment that will further identify gaps in our local housing market, which is slated to be complete by early 2023.
