Coming up this weekend, Hometown Hockey is almost upon us. Don't miss this great event and showcase of our local hockey spirit!
See below for parking/logistics information for Hometown Hockey, Winterfest and other community programming at the Prince Rupert Recreation Complex for the upcoming weekend.
Between Winterfest, Hometown Hockey, the High School musical and the Rampage game, we know it’s going to be a busy weekend! On site parking at the Recreation Complex will be extremely limited, because the parking lot is the primary area for Rogers Hometown Hockey activities. There are a number of designated parking areas in and around the Recreation Complex and downtown core, and shuttle service will be provided between the Complex and these areas.
Regular bus service will still be available on Saturday, but the stop will be adjusted away from the Complex to 9th Avenue West and McBride Street (as it is during the All Native Tournament).
We ask that residents ONLY use the small designated parking area at the Recreation Complex if you have accessibility challenges. Carpooling, using the shuttle service, and walking are highly recommended for able bodied residents.
The following locations are designated overflow parking. A shuttle bus will be going between select areas noted below as frequently as possible during the Saturday and Sunday festivities.
- Prince Rupert Middle School Parking Lot (no shuttle service to this area, access to the festival grounds through the field area)
- Charles Hays Secondary School Parking Lot (shuttle service from this area on Prince Rupert Blvd, look for signage)
- Vacant Lot across from DQ Building (at corner of 3rd Avenue and McBride Street) (shuttle service from covered bus stop across from Safeway)
*Gitmaxmakay Nisga’a Society Shuttle generously donated. Shuttle service is by donation with all proceeds going to the Prince Rupert Salvation Army.
*Look for Hometown Hockey Shuttle Signage in above noted areas.
*Bus stop in front of Recreation Complex rerouted to 9th Ave West + McBride from Thursday on (BC Transit + Shuttle will pick up/drop off here).
The majority of the main parking lot at the Recreation Complex will be closed from Tuesday, December 3rd—Monday, December 9th at 12 pm to allow for set up and take down of festival activities.
On Tuesday—Wednesday, recreation users are asked to use the Lester Centre parking lot as alternative parking, however starting Thursday evening through Saturday afternoon, users are asked not to use the Lester Centre parking lot while the High School musical is underway.
