Flag Lowered to Half Mast for Former Councillor Paddy Greene

Tue, May 21, 2019

Today City Hall has lowered the flag to half-mast in remembrance of former two-term City Councillor Paddy Greene, who passed away May 17, 2019.   Paddy was a long-time commercial fisherman in Prince Rupert, starting in the industry at just 14 years old, and purchasing his own vessel at 18. He held many leadership positions within the fishing industry, serving as director on a number of Fishermen’s unions and Government advisory councils during his long career.

It was a cruise on Paddy’s boat the “Lucky Star” to Tugwell Island that inspired Ra McGuire, the lead singer of Trooper, to write the song ‘Santa Maria’. Helping to stamp Prince Rupert into the halls of Canadiana,  Paddy left an indelible mark on our city. We are grateful for his many contributions to the community, and send our condolences to his friends and family.
