MARCH 11th, 2019 – PRINCE RUPERT, B.C. – The City’s Economic Development Office is now accepting applications for our 2019 intake for Business Façade funding to local businesses to complete exterior improvements. Businesses can apply to the program for joint funding to complete outer business enhancements, with the aim of better the aesthetic quality of the community’s primary retail areas of Downtown and Cow Bay. This program is made possible through $20,000 in grant funding from Northern Development Initiative Trust, who have supported the program for several years now.
“This program is a great opportunity for building owners to lessen the financial burden of building maintenance and improvement,” said Paul Vendittelli, Manager of Economic Development and Transportation. “It’s great to see what past recipients have done to spruce up their buildings with the funds, and we are looking forward to seeing the positive impact of this new intake.”
Previous recipients include Gitmaxmak’ay Nisga’a Society, Wheelhouse Brewing, Ashley Home Furniture, The Argosy and others. The program will provide a 50% reimbursement grant up to a maximum of $5,000 per building/project to improve the facades of existing buildings. Successful applicants will receive financial assistance in the form of a non- repayable grant, for eligible projects upon the completion of their respective project. Eligible improvements include exterior lighting, window/siding replacement, façade painting, accessibility improvements, signage, awnings, and more. To be eligible for this one-time funding opportunity, participants must be located within the Downtown and Cow Bay Development Permit Areas of the City. Projects must have a minimum total cost of $4,000 in order to qualify and a maximum of $200,000.
