Boil Water Notice for Section 2 Only - NO LONGER IN EFFECT

Fri, October 4, 2019

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS BOIL NOTICE IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT (AS OF OCT 8th, 2019).

UPDATE October 7th, 2019:

Please note that the Boil Water Notice in Section 2 (see map) remains in effect. The Notice is in place due to the levels of total coliforms identified in water testing, which are believed to be linked to oversized piping and lower water flows in the affected area.  Following the implementation of an active flushing program, the City has conducted water testing over the weekend. Once two consecutive days of clear test results are achieved, the Notice will be lifted and paper notices will be delivered to household mailboxes. When the Notice is lifted, it is advised for residents of Section 2 run your water until it is cold to ensure you are receiving a fresh source. We appreciate your patience, and are working closely with Northern Health to resolve this issue as soon as possible

ORIGINAL NOTICE:

Please be advised that areas of the City consisting of the 1400 block to 1900 block of 2nd Avenue West, Graham Avenue, Atlin Avenue, Moresby Avenue, Van Arsdol Street, Alpine Drive, and 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th streets (also known as ‘Section 2’ identified in the map below) are now subject to a Boil Water Notice.

A Boil Water Notice means that residents and water system users should heat the water to a rapid boil for at least 2 to 3 minutes in advance of consumption – including brushing teeth, drinking and cooking. Use of water for bathing and washing clothes is considered safe without boiling.

The City of Prince Rupert is working diligently with Northern Health to rectify this situation as soon as possible. We will be performing flushing of the water mains in the area over the next few days in order to refresh the system. We believe, as in the past, this water quality issue is related to low flows, oversized piping in that area, as well as recent storm surges. We thank you for your patience with this matter and will provide updates on our progress as soon as they are available.
